Our professors are trained professionals with experience motivating their students. They create a peacefull learning envirmonment while transmitting the desire to achieve with enthousiasm. This is because professors work more efficiently when they know a student very well. Each class can last bewteen 1, 2, or 3 hours. Each student may choose the frequency of his classes. They can take place on a daily basis or they can take place once a week. You decide. Just reserve your prefered class hours on your chosen Professor's calendar.

Our professors know how to encourage a student to be his/her best ("you are capable of getting an A!"), to stimulate him or her ("you can do it!"), to make him or her feel proud (" Wow, look at the work that you've accomplished today!"). Our Professors also teach each student stratgies behind excellent study habits: organization, repetition, review and writing.

In order to insure the daily efficiency of our Professors, English@lacarte provides them with an extended bibliography of learning materials that has been developed after 20 years of hands-on experience :
- Class handouts

His methods and teaching strategies will be linked to the student's pace and learning capacity.
- Every three months your son or daughter's Professor will provide you with a progress report outlining his or her achievements.
Thanks to the reassuring presence of one of our dynamic and experienced Professors, the student will be able to seek the precious aid he/she needs to progress in his language studies without feeling threatened by the judgement of his peer group. " I love my American family! Their home is my second home. " - a French student living in a Boston homestead.
It is an opportunity to experience the life-style and culture found in another country by living with a family.
Each year, thousands of families open their homes and their hearts to visitors from all over the world. Most homestays are arranged by universities, language schools, or international educational exchange organizations. In a homestay, a student can observe, learn and experience a new life-style and culture, while practicing English or other language skills in a family home. People of all ages participate in homestays. Some come alone, others come in groups accompanied by leaders. Husbands and wives come, some bringing their children.

What makes homestays special is the daily experience of living with hosts who want to share their way of life. Hosts involve their guests in their day-to-day activities, introduce them to their relatives and neighbors, and include them in family functions like summertime barbeques, holiday celebrations, and trips to local tourist attractions.
Schools and homestay organizations can arrange short-term, semester or year long stays. In some programs, students live in the dormitory or residence hall during the week and spend weekends and holidays with their assigned families.
Usually, international visitors or students enjoy staying with families having family members of similar ages or with similar interests. Here at the English@lacarte, we encourage our families to offer homestays for years and years, with some developing such close relationships that they later travel to their students' home countries to meet their families.
We find that successful homestay experiences help ease homesickness for English@lacarte students, who realize they have found a second family who loves and cares for them. Other students sing the praises of homestays because of the opportunity to improve their English skills and the chance to be immersed in American culture, rather than simply reading about it in class.
Homestays always require some adjustments. You might have expectations about meals, curfew, internet and telephone usage, laundry, television viewing, household chores, and money matters. For Universities offering homestays, it's important to set standards for approving families who will participate in the program. Families must also provide students with furnished rooms, complete with desks, and make the students feel welcome in the home.
We offer three levels of meal plans in our homestays :
- Traditional : all meals but lunches on school days provided.
- Bed and Breakfast : self-serve breakfast provided seven days a week.
- No Meals : the students prepare their own meals in the homestay kitchen. Homestay hosts take them to the grocery store every week.
Communication between the homestay owner and the international student is KEY to creating a good homestay experience.
Your homestay family will be interested in your country and family. Bring photographs of your town, school, friends and family. If you wish, also bring small gifts that are typical of your country.
